NaturFutur – Bioökonomie erleben

Exhibition at Museum of Natural History Berlin

November 2 - December 5, 2021

With the term bioeconomy increasingly heard in politics, business and science, what is behind it? How does bioeconomy influence the relationship between nature and society?

The NaturFutur project, a cooperation between Museum of Natural History Berlin and Bioökonomie.de, attempts to answer these questions in the context of a joint exhibition.

In doing so, it takes a look at different thematic fields of the bioeconomy and builds a bridge between science on the one hand and the reality of citizens' lives on the other. This includes questions of daily consumption as well as questions of sustainable production with the help of new technologies.

In the experimental field of the Museum of Natural History, an interactive augmented reality exhibit can be experienced for five weeks, which opens up different approaches to the topic of bioeconomy. The BonaRes Centre for Soil Research supported the implementation of the theme soil-growth-food.

Each of the five weeks focuses on one of the thematic areas. A multi-layered accompanying program - workshops, guided city tours, artistic interventions - not only provides different approaches, but also serves as a platform to discuss conflicting goals of a sustainable future, competing uses of land and biomass, the connection between consumption and production, biotechnology and nature conservation. Visitors are explicitly invited to share their opinions, attitudes and convictions and thus contribute to the overall picture of the exhibition.
